Actually, I think the first task will be treating MB TEX with moisturizer and changing all the fluids. In acutality, I think that's about 10 tasks!!!

ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT! The OM621 engine is pretty7 easy to work on, just don't foget that the injection pump has its own oil sump and needs changing periodically.

It's worth it to get the owner's manual and find out all the tricks before too long. Also the huge resistor that's between the glow plugs and the gorrilla knob needs perioodic cleaning to stay good.

GREAT CATCH!! CONGRATS!!

Those Texas license plates need to go.

If you sound out the letters "DYK", it don't sound good.

Anyone heard of Coffeeville, Kansas? That is the town where these folks lived when their son was going to college in Arkansas in the 1970s. She was born in 1920 (ninety years old). Her husband passed away last year. The lady told me that this was "their" car for 30 years. I asked her son if the mileage is correct because it says 83,xxx and he said they lived in a small town that closed at 6pm so everyone could be in bed by 8pm. When I was about to drive the car away, she looked like she was going to cry. I promised that "Ben" would be taken car of.

This car is the best "unrestored" original condition fintail I have EVER seen. The car has never spent a night outdoors. If you look closely, the car has rock chips on the front which is not unusual. What is unusual is that the rock chips have never seen rain or weather that would make them rust. Fixing those chips and sealing the paint will probably get priority on Daw's list of things to do.

The car comes with a stack of receipts and the owner's manuals. I sent Daw an extra copy of the OM621 engine manual I had in my collection, along with the title and bill of sale.

That is one sweet car! I can't believe the shape it is in. I am truely jealous. Don't get too excited about the air conditioning though. It robs a lot of power and there wasn't any to spare with those cars anyway.

I find it hard to believe though that the car has not been caught out in the rain sometime in it's life. There's nothing wrong with rain, it's the salt in the northern states in the winter that is the problem.

There is something fishy though if the engine has been replaced with only 83,000 on the odometer. Even if it has 183,000. The original engine should have lasted at least that long.

Also, are you sure it has not been repainted at one time? I'm not sure I've ever seen a Mercedes from the 1960's, 1970's, or 1980's that has not been repainted or involved in some kind of accident. As you noted, that front end style collected rock chips like crazy, and being around a farming community as it was, it should have quite a few chips if the paint is original. The original paint would be rare indeed.

I have heard of Coffeyville, KS, and actually been through there once. http://www.coffeyville.com/Tourism.htm It is located on the Kansas/Oklahoma border in eastern Kansas. Coffeyville used to have a foundery and was the home of the Funk Aircraft Company, famous for their aircraft starting in 1934. http://www.funkflyers.org/FAOA/brothers.htm Later Funk was famous in the agricultural tractor market with the Funk 6-cylinder and V8 engine conversions for the Ford 9N/2N/8N/Jubilee tractors, as well as agricultural and industrial gearboxes and other power distribution components. Now they are owned by John Deere. It is also the home of the Dalton gang museum.

No matter what the history of it is, that is one fine looking fintail. Congrats on your purchase.

190Dc has arrived

Truck driver arrived and he got the car unhooked. I had to call Jeffrey to get immediate gorilla knob instructions --- I was missing the pull and hold position for the glow plugs. Engine started. I backed it down off the trailer going very slowly. Then I drove it into the garage.

I will definitely need to improve the "shut off procedure" --- turning the key off does not shut down the engine.

Here are some pics to entertain the late night crowd.

Congratulations! I'm not usually the late-night type, but this was worth staying up for. These 190D/200Ds are unusual to drive at first. I'm not concerned about my car being stolen because the thieves wouldn't know how to start or drive it! These are truly fun cars to own and I think you will really enjoy such a nice example. Maybe I'll see you on the Google Heckflosse group!

Congrats! Looks great It has been over 20 years since I had a 66 200D with the gorilla knob, but I seem to remember having to push the knob back in to shut the car off?? Could be wrong as it has been a long time

You do have to push the knob back in to shut the car off. But this one does not shut off when you push the knob in, even after turning down the idle adjustment. Just one of the many mysterious that DAW will be sorting out.

I didn't look REALLY hard last night........but at first glance I didn't see a "lever" attached to the IP. Granted, I was very tired last night, but I just had to take a peak under the hood. This car has a HUGE battery in it. I'm thinking this car must be part electrical hybrid. I noticed a new relay up near the firewall and quite a bit of surface rust on the "iron" part of the brake master cylinder under the "below low" brake fluid reservoir. The brakes work fine, though.

I looked at most of the papers that came in the glovebox --- very interesting collection which included several hand written notes. The car appears to have more than 83K+ "actual" miles on it based upon some of the dealer stamps and mileage recordings. I'm hoping to be able to sort out and catalog everything this weekend when Jeffrey's package arrives......if time permits. I have several other "pressing" projects that need some attention this weekend. Even if I can accurately "define" the mileage, this car is in very good condition. It really is amazing to see so many rock chips on the front of the car and NO RUST. The window seals look brand new as does the driver's side rear tire. That's the only tire I looked at last night ---- I kept getting distracted.

I am definitely looking forward to getting this car up on the car jacks and taking some pics underneath and getting busy on the fluids.

Simple fix. If you look on the injection pump where the cable attaches, there is a clamp that holes the cable sheath. With the knob pushed in, loosen the screw on the clamp, shove the cable down as far as it will go without putting a bow in the shut-off cable, which pushes the pump shut-off lever all the way forward, then tighten the screw.

It is also possible that the plastic/rubber piece that is in the end of the cable or that the isolating rubber mounts for the cable sheath are bad and need replacing.
