front turn signal
I'm having a problem, maybe one of you may have had. My 1972 w108's front turn signals only work when my lights are off. The rear lights work fine on or off. I have the turn signals that are in the fog lights.

As I understand, they only blink when the headlights are off. Do they light up when the headlights comes on? They should come on steady with the headlights.

The headlight/turn signal assembly has phenolic insulators on the back of the bulb sockets and plugs that crack and fall out from age. sometimes the plug pins will vibrate out and/or short to the metel headlight bucket. Something to check.

blibkers blinkers
ok this post was a while ago, but I thought I would put in my 2¢. This happened to me in a vw, the problem was the wires to the 2 different filements were reversed, so the bright one was one with the lights, and the dim one was hooked to the blinkers. So you could see it blink with the lights off, but couldnt when they were on since the bright filament was drowning it out. Maybe bulb in wrong (if it can be) or wrong type bulb?
You probably have it fixed by now, but it might help others. Chris 73 280SE 4.5 95k |

I agree with Chris.
I recently purchased an '81 300TD-T that was hit at the drivers side front corner, taking out the entire headlight assembly including the turn signal. Had to get new wires from a local junk yard as the connections were smashed. I had the EXACT problem. I mistakenly reversed the connections and got the same results. Took a look at the Pass side to find the error in my ways. Rehooked up correctly and all was well...kinda. About two days later a similar but different problem happened. I looked at the connections and the wires came loose. I re-soldered them on and have no problems since. So, I would also check to make sure that the connections are good too. Gotta love these "quick kill" fixes!
