How Does The License Plate Bracket Attach On A W116 6.9?
I am rebuilding a set of USA-spec 6.9 bumpers which did not come with a front license plate bracket. Is it supposed to have one? I see two screw holes in the rubber cover. The hardware from a regular USA-spec bumper won't fit it, so I wonder how I would attach a license plate (the right way).

Well.....Ben's front Texas license plate had a screw right in the center that did the trick. The rear plate had 2 new holes drilled in the upper corners.

The front W116 6.9 bumper I have (that will be going on my 300SD) did not have a license plate bracket. I was going to use the bracket from the original 300SD bumpers but the nuts and bolts won't work. I think a bracket may fit with long screws that attach into the rubber cover. |

Assuming my 1980 280SE is the same as your 6.9, the rubber "ribbon" on the front bumper has cut outs in the middle. There are also two holes in the bumper that the bracket bolts to.
If you need me to, I can remove the plate and take pictures for you. |
