Rev limiter rotors

I acquired some new parts for my '72 D-Jet SL from a previous SL owner. The parts included a couple of rev-limiter rotors still in MB box.

Currently, I have a standard rotor installed - Is there any advantage of going to the original rev-limiter units?

Do you find yourself accidentally over-revving the motor?

I guess Daimler Benz must have thought owners might, otherwise why did they put that rotor in?

Make sure it's a 3.5 rotor, as the 4.5 doesn't rev as high! I'd imagine overreving is hard to do unless you like to drive around in the lower gear positions on purpose.

They were also on the hook for repairs during the warranty period so it was in their best interest to have a rev-limiting function. If it will make you sleep better at night then put the rev-limiting rotor in.

I am not worried about sleeping at night

But I do have two brand new rev limiter rotors and was just wondering whether to use them or not. Standard rotor in my car seems to work fine so probably just store them along with ever growing stash of spares!

Tomguy - re engine - my 350SL is the 4.5L M117 engine, but I should check the part numbers out.

Ah, I was thinking it was euro! Sorry! Well, in that case, if you actually want the protection from it, make sure it has "4,5" on it!
