In my much younger days i messed with Y blocks . The stacked intake ports are huge but don't work very well which is why the supercharged ones ran so well. A mate a 59 tudor hardtop made into a pickup. The 292 was little too underpowered he said so we dropped a 332 FE into it with twin turbos of cessna aircraft. (he worked in a aircraft service hanger ). The engine lasted about a mile before the piston crowns melted and locked it up. it was fun while lasted though..
The FE's bolt straight in when you turn the engine mounts upside down . The American Ford Six is a bit primitive compared with the Aussie six but they did get a few here in F trucks.

Wow a 332. Early FE. Cool story, thanks for sharing. :-).

No doubt about it, the OZ I-6 is much more refined. I wish the US had made the same advances with the I-6. Even into the 80's (here) it had that horrid intake log.

Y-Blocks had a very short run compare to the flat head v8's. Bob StLawrence in OZ built a wicked fast Y, he held the records for 31 years for the 1/4 mile @ 9.10 sec. Texan Randy Gummelt ripped off a 8.15 @ 162 mph in 2005 and took the top slot.
I am very thank full for these guys and Ted eaton and Bruce young (Y-Block magazine) for keeping the Y alive.

I am almost 50, so the go fast days are behind me but now that you mentioned how well the Y's perform with a supercharger.... I think I'm done for now and will probably have to have one for the 59.

Like Bob Dylan says. "It's all good"

I rebuilt the front carb last weekend. The accl pump works perfect but it still seems like the idle circuit is still not working right. I can not hear it like I do on the back carb.

67' 250S Vent hole on Carb Question
Going to check the idle circuit for blockage. I did use compressed air to blow all circuits but I did not check the area in the photo. This site is awesome.
I took a lot of pics and will post the good ones, especially the one of the float bowl with old dried up gas in the bottom of it. Looked like Mars in there. and other places where that red crud got trapped.

Pics of dirty carb.

Trying fbook for pics now. Fbook does compress the pics though. I want to find a host that allows actual pic size.
I set the camera to 1280x7(something), so they are not that big but have super detail which is lost in compression.

This is what is inside a carb after sitting a long time with fuel in the bowls.
No wonder is runs rough. LOL

Bent a old Yamaha wrench to make removing the carburetor nuts easy.

The old accellerator pump seal has a kink in it. The new one works great. The nozzle was plugged. A wire from a wire brush and compressed air cleared it.

more misc pics.

Ugghhh! That's NASTY! Do yourself a favor. Pull the fuel tank and have it professionally cleaned. Clean the metal fuel lines and replace ALL the rubber lines. You got some major funkage going on there.

Yep! It it dried up in the carburetor, you can bet it did the same in the tank and lines.
Par for the course on cars this age that sat for a long time. What baffles me, is this car has current tags and inspection stickers. LOL No F'n way this car would pass inspection.
some one knew some one. wink wink, nudge nudge... say no more...

Is this fan shroud is correct for a 250C? P/N 114 505 07 55
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCEDES-Fan-Shroud-COOLING-SYSTEM-W114-1145050755-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ400141399692QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I noticed the fan blade tips have wear marks where it was rubbing the shrould. The PO just removed the shroud.
This means engine mounts are shot. So engine and transmissions mounts will need to be replaced first.

thanks,

rich

I re remembered I had a friend that is VP of used car sales at Sugarland mercedes-benz.
He put in touch with the parts guru who confirmed it is the correct fan shroud.

Now to find the mounts..... :-)

If you're doing engine mounts I'm getting ready to do mine on Wilma. Have you gotten any advice on how to get yours in? On the injected engine the passengers side mount looks like a pain in the ass to remove. I wonder how bad it is on the carbed motor?

Hey JiveTurkey,

Not sure. I looked in the Body / Chassis manual and it shows a really nice jack on a track with a jig / fixture to support the front axle assy. Looks impressive. There is no way we are going to find that tool. will have to improvise. I notice in one of the illustrations, the mechanic is wearing a tie. That's high class. Or it is used to wipe dip-sticks.

By the looks of it, the body mount bushings should be replaced at the same time.
I have been reading the Body /Chassis manual a lot and sometime wonder if what I am reading applies to the 250C or some other W114. I am still in a steep learning curve . The parts numbering system is sinking in finally. It actually make a lot of sense.

I searched Peach parts for mounts and came up empty.

Hey Ritchie.

http://catalog.peachparts.com/ <-- sponsors this forum
Check out what the flashing box (in my browser) says :

Don't see it in the Catalog?
Call Phil ! 888-333-4642
Don't see it in the Catalog?
Email Phil ! Philip@PeachParts.com
MORE PARTS AVAILABLE THAN SHOWN

When this happens to me and I'm trying to "build" an order, I send an email to Phil with everything that I'm looking for; then he sends me back an email with itemized pricing, total, shipping, etc.

This ends my plug for our sponsor.

I will give phtotbucket a go on my home computer. Work computer is severely restricted.

"There are no PARTS available for:Engine Mount.
Please select a different product type.
Or click here for a special order!"

Searched the other link and found one side. :-)
