250C -- AC compressor / clutch needed

Hello all,

Just got back from the repair shop today, the 250C is running like a (German) top, and I couldn't be more pleased. However, the AC isn't working, which makes this east coast heat wave a little difficult to endure. I need to buy a compressor assembly, or more specifically, the clutch portion of the assembly. Any Peachers out there with an old compressor that I can take off their hands?

You'd be surprised how cheap rebuilt compressors can be found. I'm getting a rebuilt for my '75 450SEL for about $125. Check peach parts for a rebuilt, or find a place that sells them. Often, MB used GM compressors back in the 70's.

AC compressor clutch -- sources?

I found an AC compressor clutch at Adsitco, but I was really hoping to save a little money and find a source for a remanufactured part. Clutches seem to be hard to find! Does anyone know where I can get one?

A new one on eBay for the 280C series, but you may have the same clutch...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Mercedes-AC-clutch-280-280C-280S-280SE-280E-280CE-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf0127276QQitemZ330445255286QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries

$150

Also, in the Parts section of the forum, some people are parting out a few of these era cars and may have what you need at a lower cost if you are willing to take the risk.

My friend Don rebuilt my compressor. It cost about $15.00 for the two bearings it needed.

Yes! The same friend helping me swap motors in the Emerald Bullet. I would trust Don with anything mechanical. The man is a genius. He should have gone to MIT instead of mechanic school.

I am helping him sell two Mercedes diesels. One is being picked up tomorrow. He still has the 1974 240D available.

Check to see if parts are availble for the old 2cyl York compressors used in these cars. Try to find an autoparts store that has an old Murray AC parts-book. Unless the electrical clutch-coil is fried, the pulley-bearing and front compressor seal kit may still be availible.
OTOH, if I had to spend significant $$$$ on a compressor, I'd conside a kit to convert to a Sanden rotary unit.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Yorks are also the defacto compressor for Ford products from the fifties to seventies.

I've still got a few...somewhere....
