1980 450SEL question
Am I correct in thinking that a 1980 116 450SEL does not have the electronic control unit for the fuel inetction? I see a ECU listed for this model in the Fastlane database but I thought that was only for the pre 77 cars.

Your car does not have an ECU. You have the better FI system for that engine. I'd trade my D-Jet for your K-Jet any day.

I don't have one. I'm considering the possibility of acquiring one.

The ECU's are on 75 and earlier models. With this being an 80, it may have 02 sensors and some sort of system that trims fuel like the jetronic boxes that you see on the early W126 cars. These are probably things that you can remove without problems.
