1975 240D Vacuum Pump

Anything I should know prior to pulling the vacuum pump off of the block of my 240D?

Also, has anyone every had the following happen. When I started my 240D the other day it starting smoking white/blue smoke bad. The car ran like it was missing and around 3,000 rpm's. It acted like it wanted to run away, but would shut off normally. Had little throttle control.

Any help?
