w114 280C under hood wiring diagram
 

Hello,

New to site! I am in military and have only a few resources at the moment. I was the lucky recipient of a 1973 280C. The body is solid, with a bad repaint, the motor looks clean and turns over. There is however fuel that has been in the tank for about eight years, the interior needs help and a few trim pieces are missing. For the price I won't complain. The big reason the price was right was because something chewed up the wiring under the hood. I am looking for a diagram or good pictures or something that might help. Specifically in the area of the two resistors, the coil and the electronic ignition box. Helpful would also be any information about where I might be able to find interior upholstery.

It's likely that the electronic ignition no longer works--the coil can be replaced with a 12V version with an internal resistor--and conventional VW Type 2 points.

You will need power to the two little solenoids on the front of the Solex carburetor and the electric choke. You'll need to consult a wiring diagram for the car to find out whether the carb connections need to pass through the ceramic resistors to reduce the voltage.

The power windows and air-conditioning circuits have fuse boxes on the passenger-side firewall under the hood. You may want to run a dedicated circuit from the A/C console to the supplementary fan in front of the radiator (I use the seat-belt-warning opening next to the lighter to fit a rocker switch). The fan draws around 800 watts, about one horsepower--and it's handy to switch the fan off and on in traffic without waiting for high coolant or Freon temperatures to trigger it automatically.
