That's great, GGR. Nice work. I turned 16 in 1985 and was already driving my father's 1971 3.5 coupe on the weekends. Loved that vintage MB V8 so much, that just bought a 6.3 sedan - arriving Tues/Wed this week. Your videos really make me look forward to this...

I still have at least three good OM621 engines and two gearboxes, though.

This project will not die, but it may be delayed a few months.

Racing w114

I'm liking this thread. Sourced a set of non-bunt OEM aluminum wheels from a 123 last year and found myself pricing H&R springs for my 230 last week.

And here's an interesting vintage racer build from Germany. Wish I could read German!

Good stuff, I have some alumn hubcaps wheels and they are LIGHT. What model are you sourcing the springs for? New springs and bilstein shock are in order once my w114 is running right.

I found a '72 230 with the 2.3 liter six and a 4-speed at a Pick-N-Pull in California. It wasy daily-driver for a year here in Seattle. It needs some welding in the trunk and some new seat upholstery but it's fun to think about modifications. I first saw the aluminum hub cap wheels on 190SL being vintage raced at Laguna Seca. I see resto-modded BMWs and Volvos all the time. It would be cool to see some Mercedes along the same lines.

I'd love to see your car when you get the new springs and those wheels installed.

This is great stuff. My fintail has a OM616, which looks pretty stock, and some three point seatbelts. When it's low on fuel, you can squeal the tires in second gear. It feels sooooo badass. The seatbelts make it feel like you are not going to die and any given time the vehicle is in motion. Both worthwhile upgrades in my books.

I"m been thinking about trying to shoehorn a m120 into a 190e or a 300e... maybe biturbo it with turbos out the rear.... That count??

How about the transmission? would the W107 tranny bolt into a w114? Or will the M117 engine bolt onto the auto currently in my w114 attached to a M130 without any adaptors? What about the differential gearing and strength? Would I need to change rear ends or gears to handle the extra power?

It depends on the trans. 6cyl W114's and 6 cyl W107's used the same 722.1 transmission.
The 3 speed V8 tranny is unique to the W108 4.5, W107 V8's and the W116 V8.

Easier to use the automatic that is on the V8. Then you don't have valve body problems which will cause shift points to be in the wrong place. You can swap the entire rear end with the V8 unit which will bolt up underneath with only a swap of brake hoses .Use the V8 drive shaft to get the larger Flex dics.
It's a very nice conversion which will give more power than you need . You can even bolt on large series 2 W126 brakes (use the 15 or 16" wheels too) to get real performance braking.

Thanks. Now lets see if I can negotiate a good price... Sounds like I should try for the whole car. Of course I just rebuilt the top end on my M130. Anyone need lessons on how to spend more on a car than it is worth? LOL

No need for lessons but a bit therapy to ease the pain might help occasionally.
