Transmission Problem?

Hello-

I have a 1973 280, which has the M110 engine. When I'm pulling out from a stop the transmission hesitates to second gear. What could this be?

What do you mean "hesitates?" Mine shifts quickly out of first and then the engine sort of stumbles when it goes into second.

I am working this problem. Is this what yours is doing?

That is what is happening to mine. I was thinking that mybe I need to have the bands on the transmission adjusted. What do you think?

I dunno. If the transmission is shifting OK and not slipping, then a band adjustment won't help. If it seems to stay in the various gears the right amount, and downshift appropriately, then the modulator adjustment is OK.

I think that the stumbling is probably carb or ignition related. These systems did not work very well even when new and we just need to live with minor problems as they age. And as I recall, you were having some issues with your carb.

With that said, I am still trying to figure it out why I am getting the stumble, right AFTER I FIGURE OUT WHY MY BACKUP LIGHTS COME ON IN NEUTRAL AND NOT REVERSE!!!

I was the thinking the samething. I thought it might be something withthe carb. or becuase the intake manifold on my car is leaking so I thought it might be this too. When I get some money I will be replacing my carb. with a holley and have the intake manifold fixed also. And then I will see if this fixes the problem.
