NO CHARGE LIGHT -INTERMITTENT

NO CHARGE LAMP came on at start up and did not extinguish immediately. Noticed power components did not work but car started fine.

reset key and lamp extinguished . Next day on freeway lamp came on for a minute and again gages (at least) died.

I did replace some hoses on firewall and repaired a leaky pipeline. Also found my tranny vacuum line hanging loose. Corrected.

Could I have disturbed something when I was workig on firewall.

I plan to test battery, alternator, clean grounds. What else?

You're probably on track with checking the ground connection. You didn't say what model you are working on so I can't tell you exactly where to check.

Always, and I mean always, go back to the last thing you did, no matter how unrelated it might seem, and check around. I find I usually cause 90% of those "sudden" problems by accidentally moving a wire, hose or bumping a connection.

Mike is correct - been there done that! I suspect ground a ground issue or something as simple as loose battery connection.
Alternator is possible but less likely given the symptoms you discussed

That is good advice. Hasnt reoccured. Thanks. Do you guys know a good national resource for used parts? JY here in San Diego dont have any W123's. Maybe a testament to there ruggedness and reliabilty!!!

Post in vintage or in parts needed. using a part number or picture helps a lot . Most are like me with boxes of parts and we cant remember what benz we took them off of
