W116 radiator

Hi folks,

The bottom tank on my (fairly recently rebuilt radiator) has sprung a leak at the hose connection. I haven't looked at it yet, but the mechanic at the shop told me they're plastic and not repairable at that location. A new radiator is available but costs ~$1300. I have a few questions....

1. is it in fact not repairable? JB weld? glue? other ideas?
2. This is a Euro-spec 79 280SE, will an American spec radiator fit with the oil cooler? Will a 450SEL radiator fit?
3. Anyone have a used radiator?

I know it is a long drive, but the Pick-N-Pull in Dallas on Loop 12 has a 116, or at least they did three weeks ago. It is a 300SD. Look to your left as you enter the yard and it is behind the fence that is between the parts cars and the ones for sale.

I don't know if they would have the same part number, but a radiator from a 300SD would likely fit although the inlet and outlet might not be on the same side as yours. You would just have to work around that.

The Diesel radiator would likely be thicker as well since Diesel create a lot more heat.

By the way, the JB Weld will work as a quick fix but it is not a long term solution for repairing plastic tanks. It can get you out of a bind if you are stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere, but it will not last more than a few thousand miles.

I own two w116 and the radiators are copper the lower neck is soldered and can be repaired if your radiator is plastic you have the wrong radiator installed in your car that is if it is a w116 , i also have a good used radiator from a w116 all metal copper does not leak used .
