Washer Jet Diagnosis. Am I right?
So I decided to have a look into the washer jet not working on my '68 280se.
This is what I found 1. Unscrewed the foot pump etc, switch works fine as wipers do wipe. BUT no water comes out the jet 2. Could be completely wrong but I get the impression something should be attached to the Black bladder bit 3. Looking in the engine I see 1 hose not connected to anything with a very rough cut on the end 4. I find 2 random bits of hose just sitting in the engine bay 5. I poke through a grommet in the firewall and see where it leads to in the engine bay. 6. I think I need to find some new hose and feed it through this and connect it to the bladder pump piece. (Note grommet out of focus up the back) 7. Am I right? Or completely wrong? 8. If I'm right, does anyone know where to buy new hose? 9. Any pics of how it should attach to the bladder? Is there a connector piece I am missing? Thanks in advance (Plus a few extra shots for the hell of it)

I believe you have hit the nail on the head. The hose that you have found absolutely should be connected to the pump but is not. I think one goes to the pump from the bottle & the other to the nozzle itself. I don't have my car handy here for a quick snap of how it should look, routing-wise, though. The hose, at least on my 4.5, is zip-tied to the fender with the D-Jet harness. Yours should have been tied to something but probably was not, hence why it got all torn. Search 280SE Guy's thread to see if he has detailed pics of that area & how it should look on the inline's setup with the slim bottle.

Great thanks. I'll do that.
And I'll also see if I can track down some new hose The other hose from the bottle does go right to the nozzle also so that is all good.

I saw your post and took a couple of pics today for you of the routing of the windshield washer hose.
You might be disappointed if you order the hose from the dealer as the part is now thicker, stiffer, and impregnated with a white spiral reinforcement cord. Your better bet would be to source a clear plastic hose from a chemical or scientific job house, just measure the inside and outside diameter in milimeters from your bits and go on a quest. By the way, nice color combination Regards, 280SE Guy |

I was reading my issue of Star last night - are you the owner of "Anthracite"?

Thanks for the pics, the grommet seems to be in a slightly different spot to the one I spied. I will double check tonight
I will see what price the dealer comes back with too on the hose. Not too fussed on what it looks like so long as it does the job. but will also see if there is a lab suppliers store nearby. I think home depot has a decent selection also so I'll check that out http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ContentView?pn=Vinyl_Plastic_Tubing&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=2 Thanks! you can find metric hose at lawn mower repair places. The fuel lines on many weedeaters and chainsaws, ect works well on these cars. I sourced many a lines from my local shop
