Clutch pedal bracket cracked...?

The bracket holding the master cylinder to the clutch pedal snapped on my 74 mercedes 240d manual transmission. Does anyone know where I can order one? I already tried welding it but it appears to be magnesium.

Help please!

I think I'm going to go ahead and take it off today and see what there is that can be done with it. Anyone happen to know the part # off the top of their head?

If you can post the VIN, or at least the first digits up to the serial number, that would help a lot to find out the part number.

Is the part # located on the part itself? If so it is 115 294 10 01.

I took off the bracket and am going to see if JB weld will work as a last result. The bracket has to be either magnesium or aluminum because it is very light weight.

my guess

This item is probably aluminum, if it is one or the other. It can be welded pretty easily and should hold-up well when done correctly. Take it to a local welding shop and tell them it's for a Chevy chevette. They will find that amusing, assume your poor and probably won't even charge you!

yeah, I wouldn't think it's mag. As stated, it should weld up pretty easily. The only problem is if they are sandcast dirty parts, you can run across impurities and voids but still, doable.

I'm not the best welder in the world, but I know my way around a machine alright and I have already tried to weld it, but I don't have an aluminum spool or a tig welder. Not sure if that is necessary or not. Kind of hard to say its for a chevette when it has a mercedes emblem on it, lol.

MIG

MIG or TIG are the only way to go with this item and it has to be clean, clean, clean, clean, clean! Weld with AC selected.

So i got the bracket tig welded. Now after I put it back in and I push on the clutch it was like the clutch wasn't giving at all. Very firm. Then I bled the system and I have no clutch... My slave cylinder might be out? I am getting very frustrated with this now haha.

uh?

This sounds very odd. The only thing that makes sense is: the original re-install of the pedal assembly was faulty or the bleeding was faulty. Where is the fluid leaking from?

Well I didn't know that their was fluid leaking, but as I was bleeding it, it looked like there could have possibly been some fluid leaking out of the slave cylinder. I think it is probably the problem because I remember when I was driving it before anything had happened and the clutch didn't feel right in the first place, but that may have been due to a crack in the bracket that then later snapped... I didn't think to check that when I bought it. Also, when it broke while I was driving it could have damaged the master cylinder somehow. It doesn't seem like much happens to the master cylinder when I depress the clutch, but that could be related to the hydraulics still.

strange

I wonder if the master cylinder piston could have backed up a bit when you removed the clutch assembly, catching a seal and rolling it inside the valve. Can you move the master spool, inside the valve by hand? Can you pull it out all together. When you bled the brakes, did you use a bleeder kit or did you have someone pushing the clutch pedal?
