109 blower motor
I pulled the a/c blower motor (passenger side footwell) out, and there is a metal hose nipple on the back side of the motor housing. There was no hose to connect to. What is this for? Is it in case the condensation drip tray fills up, and water would go down the vent pipe to the motor and this is an emergency drain?
thanks Fred

Thats exactly what it is for ,plus it keeps the air fresh inside the motor .

I also had trouble wiggling it out of the hole it mounts in, there is a large rubber gasket of sorts that goes around the motor hub?? I can't tell exactly how it fits on there since it fell out and I never saw how it was mounted. I did not see it on the diagram.

Is the a/c blower/cooling coil setup the same as a 108 car? The hose nipple for the condensation hose snapped off the condensation tray and I might know a guy with some 108 parts.
thanks Fred

There were at least two different companies that I know of that made the air conditioning components for the USA 108/109 series cars. One is Behr and the other is Thermoking. My 68 280SE had the thermoking system and my 1970 300SEL has the Behr system. From a distance they visually look the same but the evaporator cases and fans for each one are different.
The evaporator case on the Behr system is held together by 5 or 6 spring clamps and the case on the thermoking system is held together by screws. The fans and motors are also slightly different. From your description of the fan motor it sounds like you have the Behr system. I've also found the word Behr is molded into the plastic fan housings on the Behr system. The fan on the thermoking system seems to always be made with metal housings. Hope this information helps you in finding the correct evaporator case bottom for your A/C. John 1970 300SEL 2.8 |

When you fit the motor ,you put the rubber on afterwards, via the inner fender. It should be a tight fit onto the motor. it's more of a Cuff, than a grommet . Because it's behind the splash panel etc it shouldn't be affected by water etc.

Yikes, how do you get to the backside to put the rubber grommet on?

Take out the inner splash panel under the fender ,and you can see the back of the motor, thats where the ring goes.
