I have no experience of your engine but in the OM617 FSM it mentions a measurement procedure for the length of these bolts - they are known to stretch - and should only be re-used within certain limits. It could also be true for your bolts. So perhaps keeping the old isn't such a smart move - especially if they're unserviceable.
