How much gear oil SAE 80 W90 is going in the rear axle pumpkin of a W109 3.5?

Is it the same as with later models - fill up the gear box until it overflows at the upper opening (allen screw)?

The short answer is yes. You have to have the axles in their normal horizontal position not hanging down as if the car was on a lift.
