w116 owners, question for you (interior)

The back seat of my 300SD has "saggy syndrome" The upholstery is bunched up and looks like it was subjected to 200 degree heat. The material itself is not torn, dried up or damaged, just really wrinkled up.

Has anyone successfully treated this syndrome? Any pictures?

Before I take it apart, I want to know what I need to bring it back to life.

Thanks in advance.

The pad is disintegrated. It goes underneath the vinyl/leather of your seat. It's very common to w116's. Fortunately mine was redone before I got the car. The seats are easily taken apart, and within an afternoon you should be able to replace the pads.

Regards,

David

Yep, skins should be okay to reuse but the cloth material toward the back will probably be very fragile or missing. Same with the cloth underneath that sandwiches and holds the padding strips in place.

I found a set of nearly mint-condition frames and pads and installed my 1979 300SD's skins over them. I had to use spray adhesive to glue the padding strips back under the seat since the cloth was gone. You can see in the pics that the seat upper is wrinkled. This is from the cloth portion was water-damaged and it couldn't pull the skins tight.

I know of some parts suppliers, but I think it is against the rules to mention them.
