I'd make it mechanically perfect, restore the interior.. Put some new period correct tires on it and rock the patina. |

That is so awesome, I can't believe it's been sitting that long. I will be following this thread.

Looks original, given the early W115 aluminum grille insert and headlight doors with the bright amber signals w/o the later clear overlay. Bet the taillights are all red, no amber turn signals....
That Becker GP is a pretty unusual radio for a 220D. Had one in my 6.3, I've never seen anything better than a Becker Europa in a diesel.... Cool. Jim

My dad has four horns underneath the car.. Loud enough you'll jump when you hear it...lol..

As for the cracked dash...
I happen to know of what I think is the correct dash for that car for sale in FL. It was listed on eBay months ago and didn't sell... I was recently in contact with the seller; it is still available, but it turned out to be the wrong type for my car (for some reason, the 300D has the later-style dash used in the W114 models, unlike the 240D which uses a 115 dash).
In any case, if you are interested drop me a PM and I'll send you the seller's email address. I think he wanted about $400 for the complete dash. While it looked OK in the pics he sent me, they weren't very good pics... caveat emptor. D. Quote:

Yeah, rock the patina! That car earned that look for 28 years. It kinda tells the story about how amazing a car it is that it can start after all those years. It's one thing to have a babied 40 year old car that still runs, but to have one all but left for dead for 3 decades come back to life is a testiment to its durability.
Unbelievable. Great job!! (yellow interior? Love it!)
