220s, 230s, 280s m180 m130 i guess whatever is compatible.. i was going to put my diesel engine in it but the w110 diesel subframe mounts are no longer available and if i stay with the w111 subframe mounts the hood will hit the engine

Your best bet is to find a running engine or something that can be made to run without any serious work. I have a 280S engine in a 250C that would work. I think the trans is different enough that the two may not interchange.
I did a 220Sb a few years back and we put a 250S engine in it. Everything fit OK but the flywheel and torque converter were different. I think the early one has 4 screws and the later one has 8 with two placed together, side by side, while ealier cars only have one. Check that and let us know. |

Did the short head bolts get stuck?
It can be a mission to get those out because they corrode into the water jackets. Unless you have access to an "old man knocker" to loosen the bolts it's best to scrap the engine . only an early ponton is worth saving because of the originality factor. I've fitted the later m130's into W111's. I find it easier to include the whole engine trans deal but it requires a relief in the rear on the trans tunnel for the flex disc and a bigger flex disc spider on the front half of the drive shaft to use the W108 parts. Also the speedo drive is different. Search this forum for the thread on the m130 to m180 style trans set up. it's probably simpler for you to do it this way . |

I swapped my M180 for an M130 engine. I needed a different flywheel that had different flywheel bolts (six) to make it work. I am very happy with the increase in power and torque of the M130 engine.
There is a thread about the engine swap on this forum.
