Coil testing questions

I am trying to ohm out a coil to see if it is good. According to the specs I should get 6kohms for the coil secondary , and .5kohms for the primary
on the coil
Ohm readings for the coil secondary should be 6 Kohms, which is what I get but the primary should be .5Kohms and I get , well zero, actually I get continuity, no reading . I think I am doing this correctly but would like some feedback.
I Should I get a 500 ohm reading on the 1k scale, correct???
both are listes as +/- 10%

I assume you can test a coil using a meter ( I have a good quality digital and a good analog )

thoughts?

My understanding was that the primary was closer to 0 ohms than 500 so I wonder if the spec is correct.

A quick Google (test ignition coil ohm) later and I see a .7 to 1.7 ohm spec which sounds better to me.

If your meter can do relative measurements, zero out the leads when measuring the primary.

im new here and have question regarding the climate control panel

i have a 1979 280 e and have just recently noticed that my climate control switch don't work , the defrost works but heat and ac control switch don't work, i think it could be the panel failure but am not sure. any help would be highly appreciated.

yes book value was wrong, its .5 ohms, and the coil is good. thanks all

and newbie, post your question as a new post under vintage forum, but defrost only mode is failure mode for that unit, however other items play into it. Do a search you will find a lot of inforamtion.
IS your buttons horizontal or vertical?

[B]Welcome ! it may be a vacuum hose that is broken or come off .this turns the heater to the default defrost mode . check at the engine end connector
