Help with windshield wipers 66 250SL

I've got a customer with a 1966 250SL that needed a new turn signal switch. I installed the switch but for the sake of me I can't get the wipers to work. I can apply voltage to one of the terminals on the wiper relay and the wipers will start and I can stop them by pushing in the turn signal stalk. They will not start by pushing the stalk. Any help please?

Stan,

It's a possibility that the switch could be at fault. Are you sure all the pins made connection?

Yes I have triple checked all connections. Can the wiper motor have a problem?

Stan,

What was the original complaint? Wipers not coming on at all with old switch? If it was simply a case of the switch not holding in either the left or right turn signal position, you can disassemble it and sand down some of the ridge where the "cam" rides. That will cure that problem. If you replaced it because of a wiper problem, it could possibly be a motor fault. I'll have to check my W113 wiring diagrams to see what the circuit looks like.

I wasn't informed what the problem was. I was requested to replace the turn signal switch and after the repair I couldn't get the wipers to work. When I jump the relay the wipers and wiper washer work but when I push in the stalk everthing stops as they nomally would. Pushing in the stalk has no response whatsoever.

Is there anyway possible that you could send me a view of the wiper system?

The 113-250sl had a mid-yearchange on the stalk. They are not inter-changeable. [ the early stalk was same as 230/ the later same as 280]

As Aron said, the common complaint is not holding on turns and can be remedied with a round fileing of the cam holes.
If the old stalk is still handy and wipers did work, I would plug it back into the harness for a try . That will tell you if the other stalk is compatible.
