115 250 engine
A 72 115 250. Would that be the 2.5 or 2.8 liter motor?

Its either the M114(2.5) or the M130(2.8). They stopped using the M114(2.5) in 1972 and stated using the M130(2.8), so it depends on whether or not you have a early or late car.

I'm not sure I agree. First of all, W114 vs W115 bodies: 6 cylinder gas is 114, not 115. If you are talking about M115 motors then I have no idea.
My 1971 250 C has a 2.8 L engine, M130. It is original to the car. Scott |

Sorry, I thought the 115's were the gas and the 114's the diesel. I always get them confused. Thanks for the info, helps to know what I'm looking at.

115=diesel AND 4 cylinder gassers
114=all 6 cylinder gassers |

It is odd, I bought a speaker grill online only to find out it was for a W115 and not a W114 :(
|
The speaker grills changed from year to year. My '73 W114 is different than my '72 and my '74.

It's as simple as this I believe:
The Euro 250 sedan or coupe used the 2.5 engine. The USA versions used the 2.8 I think all of the early cars did use the 2.5 regardless of where they were going but at a certain cut off US cars got 2.8 while everywhere else stayed with the 2.5 I had a nice 250C in once and the guy insisted that it was a 76 which I didn't believe at the time. It was - a 1976 Euro 250C with a 2.5 in it. Very clean with about 20,000 miles on it. |
My 250CE has the M114 engine, the UK only got the injected engines in the coupes and I think that the last year for the 250CE was 1972, from then onwards, we got the 280CE which were sold new all the way to 1978 (probably unsold stock) along side the W123.
