OLD STORY; CARPET KITS & QUALITY

I know there are threads that have gone down this road, but I would like some input on GAHH vs. World UPH.
If price is no concern, does one offer a better product or better quality?
I am looking at seat kits and carpet kits? Price seems to be very similar
and both seem to be in business for a while.
Any input would be appreciated
Thanks guys

I bought my SL seat covers from XKSS (now World Upholstery) 20 years ago. They were very nicely made of good quality leather and still look great.

I made a mistake by buying cheap carpets off eBay (quailtytopsandinteriors or something like that, and they were a disaster. Had to recut them to make them fit.

Gahh sounds like an good company, but I myself would go with WU just because of previous good experience. If price was not important, I would also investigate Heritage in Vancouver (and Blaine, Wa).

One last thing: when you buy new carpets, they don't come with the foam backing. They will just be carpet sections cut / sewn to the correct shapes and sizes.

Best Regards,

David

Hmmm.... I heard that no one sells the carpet with the foam backing. I stand corrected. I guess it's the other sellers that don't include it. Keep me posted with how they come, whatever company you choose to use. I'll need carpets for the 230S in short order.

Best Regards,

David

I bought leather front seat covers from GAHH for my 1973 280SEL. Actually, I bought them from GAHH through an independent upholstery shop that gets the 20% discount. They are not cheap, but they looked perfect like Mercedes Benz OEM. The fit and finish and feel seem genuine, and Mercedes Benz recommends them.

There is another shop that advertises on Ebay as "Topsonebay" that is run by ex-employees from GAHH that is cheaper, and does equally good work. I ordered front and back seats for Goldie Locks that came out perfect and I saved $200.00. They are located in Los Angeles, California.

I have had one unpleasant experience of buying a carpet set (for a 300sel) from a guy in N.Dallas sells on e-bay,basically was a thin mat carpet .
Surprisingly the 'tops...something ' has a 100 % e bay rating for leather seats etc..

To the "avid classical mercedes enthusiast,"mak, er Mark: I know the member to whom you refer and let me first say, you're wrong. That is me being polite. With few exceptions, you have found it necessary to slyly, yet not too subtly, deface a well-known member of the PeachParts forum--you coward. While I may be biased because the gentleman to whom you refer is well-known by most true "avid classical mercedes enthusiasts," he is also a dear friend of mine and has lent--with no expectation of reciprocation--a helping hand to many fortunate enough to be a part of this community. While I wish I could say he's sold me many parts, he hasn't; he's given me parts because he truly seeks to help those that share his enthusiasm for these fine cars.

Having read the long, and embarrassingly poor written email exchange (your part), in addition to seeing the carpet pieces in person and in pictures, I not only concluded that you are obviously wrong, but that you're cheap, devoid of class, and an idiot. Yes, an idiot. I say this not because of your poor writing abilities (I'm no Shakespeare), but because you sought to nickel and dime him out of every penny possible to get your 108 carpets as cheaply as possible. Ironically this was for your 109. To the readers of this post, this crock bought a new FULL carpet set from a well-known member here. They agreed on a price, then our honest member sought to charge this idiot for actual shipping (what a crook, I know). Mak the idiot sent him loose cash that quite a bit less than the agreed upon shipping cost (actual). I could go further into details, but it would only serve to make Mak look like an even bigger idiot since he tried to play ignorance (claims he sent the shipping money before he knew how much it would cost). The funny part is the post mark was 2 days AFTER the shipping price was communicated.

After Mak finally paid up (in full), he seems to tell everyone that he was taken advantage of by a well known and respected member here. The truth is, the guy bought a GAHH (or however it's spelled) carpet set, brand new, for $250. He must not have known this, though he claims the carpet was for a friend and not for his 109, but the 108 and 109 have different types of carpet--109 obviously having the nicer thick carpet. Mak the idiot knew he was buying 108 carpet from the beginning yet tells everyone that he was mislead into buying cheap, "thin mat carpet."

Keep in mind through all this that Mak the idiot is just that, it's no misnomer, he's an idiot. He's one more sleaze ball out of the marvelous city of Cleveland (my retarded, gay, step-cousin physician wouldn't even live there) looking to nickel and penny anyone out of anything possible. He probably likes Gucci he's so cool.

To Mak, you make this forum a worse place because of your presence here. I will restate it: you are devoid of class, cheap, and an idiot. You bought a brand new 108 carpet set from someone who actually did you a favor, and you still look for every opportunity to make him look bad because of your mistaking 108 and 109 carpet...TWO YEARS AGO. Get a life, seriously, but do it somewhere else, not here.

Best Regards,

David

Yeah, I'm usually right ;-)

Just kidding, IVIuzzy. To be honest I was kind of hoping I'd be wrong so I'd know that I could buy from World Upholstery to get new pads with the carpet.

Best Regards,

David

I think there may be some confusion. Some carpets have a thin foam rubber backing. But perhaps those are just the mats? I don't think anybody provides the thick foam underpadding. I made my driver side out of a double layer of black high density carpet underlay that I bought at Home Depot.

Regarding the 100% rating for 'qualitytopsetc..something ' on eBay. If you are talking about same guy, what they do, is tell buyers that they can ship right away if they order direct rather than wait for auction to end. I was suckered in and in end could not post bad feedback on ebay.
