Tracking down my first MB - '59 220s

I'm interested in tracking down my first MB which was a cream colored 1959 220s. I bought it in Santa Barbara in 1970 and sold it in Naperville, IL in about 1974. I don't have the VIN# but the car had non standard twin Solex carbs off of a 300SL. If anybody knows of this car, I can fill in some early history for them. Thanks, Reid

I thought 300SL's only had FI. Very early cars had carbs but that was before the production run.

I know a guy with a really nice sedan that he would probably sell.

The carb plumbing was different from a normal 220s and one of the old German guys at the shop said the carbs had been replaced with higher throughput versions from another model. The car had beautiful custom made solid piping that looked like it came from Germany with the proper acorn fittings and braided cloth cover - identical to the original but with a different input location on one of the carbs. I thought he said 300SL but I certainly could be mistaken. I remember being impressed at the time (as a 20 something year old) that I had carbs from a race car. No, I'm not interested in another one, I just thought I could supply some early history to the present owner if the car is still around. Thanks, -Reid

sounds like 190sl carbs, but you'd need 3 of them. Maybe 300c carbs? -CTH

It's not going to be easy to track down a car without a vin that was new more then 50 years ago.
