Ignition switch trouble,62 220seb

When I release the key after car starts, power ceases and car dies. Also there is no auxillary power when the switch is turned to the on position. Can this be fixed or do I have to replace switch.I have a 1962 220seb sedan

It's the switch on the rear of the lock. it's held in place with a couple of screws . You buy them new from mercedes or the site Sponsor.

Ignition 62 220 seb

Thank you for the info. I want so badly to get this one owner beauty back on the road . Because of budget constraints and my desire to know this car better, I will be doing the work myself. Do you happen to know if the steering column will have to be dropped down to remove the switch to replace the two screws? Also, do you know of any good links for parts . Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again for responding to my initial inquiry. Have a great day.

No need to drop the column. Look up under the dash at the top of the clumn.
There are two 13mm bolts . They screw directly into the lock.
Unlock the lock with the key so the steering is free.
remove those two bolts.
Now,look for the strap that holds the column to the dash and undo the 13mm nut on there.
once the strap is undone, wriggle the lock assembly free from the car and you can now see where the wires are screwed to the back of the switch. You can pull the switch apart by unbending the the three crimps but it's not usually a successful method. It's far better to simply replace the whole switch on the back of the lock.

Ignition fix 220 seb

Thanks! Can't wait to attack it! I work at Superior Hyundai in Anniston, Alabama. If I can assist you with anything in regards to a Hyundai don't hesitate to ask. I noticed your user name having the 6.3 in it. Would that be the bankers hot rod? My brother has had a couple of them. The gentleman that bought them sent one to ruff to have it turbo charged. Definately a cool car. Thanks again for your help. Have a great day. Ben Pope

Yes I have a 6.3, which I have owned for quite some time (#1675) .I restored it over 5 years but due to time constraints I haven't driven it for a year(!) .
I have modified my engine to run EDIS ,eliminating the one thing that lets these engines down ,the distributor. It now has real horsepower especially when the need arises to leave tailgaters behind at 80 mph. 80 to 130 takes seconds now.
Next step is to rebuild the injection pump...again.
