Alternator upgrade

Will installing a 65A regulator on a W123 55A alternator increase the amperage, or does the alternator itself need to be changed to gain the increase?

It's easier to fit the larger amp alternator because it has larger field coils. It bolts in . Make sure the red power cable is in good condition though, that extra 30 amps will fry the connections pretty quickly if they are the least bit dodgy..

Alternator output amps is a function of the alternator not the regulator. The regulator basically just controls whatever output the alternator was designed to delliver.
