Alternator symptoms
Not a critical issue...
In my SEL, I'm running an older 55A Alternator, with a 14.4V regulator. That alternator originally had a 13.8V regulator. Since around about the time I was having some repeated alternator issues, a 'flicker' had developed visible in my instrument lighting. If I turn the car off, then turn on some accessories, lights, whatever, to drain the battery a little, once the car is started, that flicker isn't there. My Theory: The Regulator is fluctuating between it's on and off points, causing a voltage spike causing the flicker, because when the car's been again running for a while, the flicker returns, I assume when the battery is recharged and the fluctuating begins again. It's also speed variable with engine RPM. I welcome any other possible ideas. Otherwise I managed to survive the winter just fine

Wiggle the rheostat which controls the instrument lights,
check flicker. That works on W111 and W108. 14.4 V is a little on the hot side ? |
