hood hinge lateral play problem

New MB owner, '77 240D 4 sp manual, 221,777+ (odometer and speedometer don't work yet).

Question relates to the hood hinges. No problem opening, but when I close the hood, I need to do it inch by inch, pushing the hinge elbow in or pulling it out so it doesn't 'hang up' on the hinge recess slot.

Any repair for this? Thanks

It sounds like the either the holes in both arms of the hinge, or the rivet, or both have worn to the point of becoming sloppy. I would just replace the hinge in question. They are cheap enough and easy to find. Any W123 hinge will work.

There is no real way to repair this. Just grab a good pair at a wrecking yard.
