1971 250C with twin ZENITHs

New to me, this W114.230 with M110 2.8L twin Zenith I6 is running rich.

Where is the adjustment to make mixture leaner?

Should I run this car on Premium fuel & if so, what's the advantage?

Does this car have a three speed automaic? It revs 3000+ rpms at 60 mph and feels like it should go to 4th gear.

Fuel economy is poor, as you may have guessed.

Are you sure you have an M110? I don't think they were out in 1971. I couldn't find a reference to chassis number 114.230, but I did find one for 114.023, which is listed as having an M130, which is the engine I have in my 114.

The transmission should be a four speed auto that generally starts in 2nd. They are geared for acceleration and are buzzy on the highway.

How bad of fuel economy are you getting? Around 15 or 16 is pretty normal. I run mine on premium. Sometimes I can get away with mid-grade, but it pings on regular.

Not sure on the mixture adjustment. My car has been in the shop with a failed trans for quite some time so I haven't actually seen the car in weeks.

It's probably an M130. The M110 are the 2.8 twin cams and came with a solex.

A 1971 US 250C has a M130 and twin zenith carbs. Mine is tuned pretty well and had the carbs rebuilt and might be running a tiny bit rich. It gets a consistent 13 mpg, _maybe_ up to 15 on the freeway. It wants premium also. This is not an economical car to drive but it is a GREAT car to drive. If you punch it it will start in first but it is geared such that it sounds like it could use another gear.

W114.023/M130 it is. I haven't run the numbers yet, but sounds like performance similar to Scooter's. Would love to see the owner's manual. Thanks for the info.

Sounds exactly like my old 1972 250C. Also had a 2.8 liter with 2 Zeniths. Ran great when warm, but shuddered when cold due to the electric and water choke combination that was impossible to calibrate. Had plenty of power, but I never liked the auto transmission on it. Great cars though. AC, power windows, huge trunk, but why the idiotic static seat belts?
