Ring the classic center and buy a new one. They have them in stock again.

yes they do . They have been stocking them for nearly 3 months .where else would get the price from ? Or,You could go to the nearest cheap auto parts place and buy a holley (or carter etc ) electric fuel pump for $50 . As long as the pump can reach 28PSi constantly any damn thing will do but dont expect it to last 40 years like the bosch pumps.
Buy a kia if the parts are too expensive for you.. |

If it is leaking and not working, try opening it up and cleaning it. Gaskets are cheap to make. It might be fouled up or have a bad electrical connection.
You have nothing to loose. You also could put in a later type (108 280SE 4.5) pump, I think, with some hose modifications. Good luck, Bert

Are the later style pumps somehow cheaper? Martin |

I have the pump apart.
There is fuel in the motor....I guess the axle is leaking. Has anyone taken this pump further apart in order to seal the axle? The mechanical part of the pump seems to be fine. i guess that the flooding of fuel in the motor compartment made the pump angry and it quit. I see if I can resurrect it. Any help is welcome |

Not sure what your fuel pump looks like, but there are several Bosch fuel pumps for Mercedes V8 engines on ebay for comparison, ranging from $175 to 275 (W107 type pumps) and up (there is one for W109 listed at $299 and $475, I think). Did you check with Peachpart guys to see what is compatible?

nice thumb. The 4.5 fuel pump looks identical but has a port on the motor (inlet or outlet?)which leads me to believe the motor may normally be full of fuel. just an observation

Pump seems to be running 'wet' (do you see the hole in the pumps( see my earlier pictures) The pump is leaking fuel then at the terminals. Any cure for this kind of leak?
Is there anyone remanufacturing these pumps? Or someone who know how to do it? |

I have the pump now completely apart, Arthur is helping me here.
Pump has 3 o-rings big one for sealing the motor bay- this is the proof that the pump is 'wet'. (also there is a slide bearing for the rotor on the bottom which would not work with a dry pump) o- ring ID 50 x 2.5 Then 2 o-rings ID 30 x 2 for the pressure chamber. Does anyone know how the terminals are sealed? Martin Last edited by werminghausen; 05-20-2011 at 07:33 AM. |

The VERY EARLY 3.5 engines use a different pump than 1971 and up. I believe the change over was in the summer of 1970. These pumps are NLA. I would look for an outfit than can professionally rebuild them or contact Bosch and see if they have the parts, willingness or recommedation for a later retrofit.

This pump has a capacity of 2L/min against a pressure of 2Bar at 11.5V. It has a built in relief valve to protect against overpressuring the injector hose clamp fittings. There are many other pumps that can produce higher pressures, but they don't have the relief valve built in or it may be set to a higher pressure. One thing you might check, is for a Nissan 280Z pump off eBay. They seem to go for lower prices. Bosch USA also appear to have an equivalent new pump - part 69612. This is apparently available from Advance Auto. I have one of these pumps as a spare for my '72 350SL which uses the 580 464 005 pump. (Bosch also list a 69610 pump for my car, but I never have found one for sale.) If it is just the o-rings that are leaking on your pump, you may be able to rebuild it yourself. Just need to find the right size o-rings. There are some pump rebuilders but they tend to be quite pricey. Finally, Bosch Europe have a new pump that replaces the 0580464005 (and probably yours too). Here are both english and german versions - they seem to say slightly different things! But they do have this pump, at a price! http://www.automotive-tradition.com/de/teile/media/Produkt_Profil_EKP_0580464999_de.pdf http://www.automotive-tradition.de/en/teile/media/Produkt_Profil_EKP_0580464999_en.pdf By the way, D-Jet pumps do have fuel circulating through the motor, presumably to keep the pump cool.

Graham,
FYI, the english and german pdfs say exactly the same thing. I could not find the pump info on the Bosch info link you posted. I was looking for "krafstoffpumpe" and did not see it. Did I miss something? So, are all these pumps interchangeable? Thanks, Bert

I was given the 999 number by Bosch, Germany for the new D-Jet replacement pump which has only just come on market. They are available on eBay in Europe. The Bosch 69612 pump also seems to be a possibility. I must install mine sometime.
