Windshield wipers that don't stop.

220D from 1973.

Wipers didn't stop on the way to work today, had to pull over and remove the appropriate fuse.

Symptom familiar to anyone?

Check the switch on the washer pedal to see if it's stuck or shorted.

Happy Motoring,
Mark

Don't know if it applies here, but I had an old VW once with a similar problem. Reason was the "parking" contact on the wiper motor had worn so that if the wipers overran the contact as they slowed to a stop, they would re-connect with the "running" contact and complete another cycle. Perpetual motion!! I had to open up the motor case and cobble a fix. (Could have been a junkyard transplant; don't really remember.)

I had the same problem with a 356A porsche. When the wiper reached the bottom of the cycle I held it with my finger momentarily and it would stop. Might work on the mercedes.

Yep, that was it.

Thanks.

(late reply due to two weeks of rain induced procrastination).

I wired an electic pump to my washer pedal switch when the rubber bulb rotted but that's another story. Glad to have helped.

Happy Motoring, Mark
