My dad bought a new thirteen hundred in sixty six. I courted my first wife in it.. we were on the way to clowes hall one warm summer evening, to see Simon and Garfunkle, when a lady ran a red light and hit us broadside on my side of the car. Broke my future wifes right arm severely and totalled the car. I walked away with a bruised hip and glass in my eye. I got the seat wrapped around me and the side pushed in thirteen inches but no broken bones.

It was dust colored.

Then in nineteen seventy we went to europe for the summer and bought a fifty nine vw with a sunroof like the one in the picture and drove it all over europe for the summer.

Yep.....memories there.

My first car was a VW...a 1960 model. Had three more after that...two '67s and a '73 Super Beetle.

My high school friends and I would pull the engine on that '60 model about once a month just to see how fast we could do it.

In a prior life it had been rolled so we removed the doors, took an air chisel and cut the roof off and then welded a 'roll bar' structure in place of the top to support a cloth roof. It got a set of modified implement wheels on the back that were about 10" wide. I swear that car would roll on water. One weekend we drove it down South Padre island all the way to Mansfield Cut. What an adventure!

I had a '57 oval window for years. I was ready to start restoring it and my wife said she was afraid to ride in it so out it went and in came the coupe.

I still miss my super Beetle on occasion. Trouble is, I am always reminded of the drunk driver Mr, Conaway from Alabama that rear ended me. So the warm fuzzy over the VW only lasts about 15 seconds. A-hole didn't even show up for court.... what a puss.

Congrats on the find! I am envious
