Fire Extinguishers
 

I currently have a hardware store-variety small extinguisher kept on the passenger side floor of my car in case of the unthinkable.

Was thinking of upgrading and thought I'd see what you guys are using.

It's not the correct size or model, but these Gloria fire extinguishers are good to have and are brand new. You'll need to get the correct mounting brackets for them, which are chassis-specific.

Maciej over at BW sells them from Poland, shipping takes +/- 30 days due to handling nature of these extinguishers.

To attack all fires
 

electrical, gas/oil or uphostery you need a dry chemical extinguisher type. Not CO2 or of course water.

How would you get a dry chemical type to spray up under the dash ?
How would you get it to put out an upholstery fire ?

Give me a CO2 any day... Learn how to use it on those other kinds of fires... I used one for 20 years in my shop... it is great when you need to keep insulation up inside a body panel from starting on fire and keeping it cool at the same time... things you can not do with one time use dry chemical.... and my CO2 could be reused as long as it had CO2 in it... a re sealing gasket.... not true with dry chemicals....

I am a firefighter-medic and carry the DC type. You are free to use what you wish. The DC type makes quite a mess but at least you will save your car in all circumstances.

I have a Halotron fire extinguisher in my car.

This Fire Extinguisher successfully extinguishes Class B and C fires by cooling and smothering and will not provide electricity to the user. Halotron Extinguishers are intended for use in areas formerly protected by Halon 1211 hand portable extinguishers. HALOTRON I is a "Clean Agent" HydroChloroFluoroCarbon (HCFC) discharged as a rapidly evaporating liquid which leaves no residue. Halotron is pressurized with Argon gas and is an EPA and FAA approved agent.

For the following types of fires:
Class B: Flammable Liquids and Gases - gasoline, oils, paint, lacquer, and tar
Class C: Fires involving live electrical equipment

Yes they are more expensive but provide a "cleaner" result if one needs to use it.

Dry powder makes a mess almost as bad as a fire. Halon and CO2 work just fine.

I pulled one from a Euro W123 recently, it was Gloria brand HALON and it was 2 KG, not 1 KG. The mounting was a little different than shown in Mbeige's pictures - closer to the floor, but screwed into existing holes in the bottom/front edge of the metal seat frame. I was considering havingit recharged (currently part charged) and then selling it on ebay. (At least these older ones are recharable).
