Cam chain question
Hi,
Any way to tell if the cams are properly aligned in my M110? I suspect a valve problem, but someone was in there before... Can the cams be installed out of alignment with each other? I am waiting on a manual, but I figured someone here knows the alignment marks. Also, is there a chain master link or do you remove the sprockets? Thanks! Eric

Mercedes says that for assembly purposes, it is sufficient by noting that both camshaft sprockets be aligned with their respective towers - marks in alignment while the engine is TDC #1 cylinder.
So as long as you have no more than 4 degrees chain stretch and the cam marks are aligned at TDC, your timing is good. However, this dosenīt mean there couldnīt be an issue with valve adjustment, lobe wear, guides, surfaces, etc. If itīs the original chain, there will be no separation link, but there is a tool made for opening a link to allow the connection of a new chain to the old one to feed the new one into the chain area
