Anyone know what these cars are worth?

A friend of mine has 2 old Mercedes Benz cars, and wants to trade them for my 1985 280 E. I am not sure what the 2 cars are worth, so I don't know if it would be a good deal. The 2 cars are: 1957 220 S- runs and will drive after replacing the tires, and adjusting the shifter. 1964 190 D - round headlights (I am told these are more desirable). He does not know if this car will run, but the car is complete. Both cars have very rough interiors, and a tiny bit of rust on the '64. The 57 appears to have a very straight body with no rust. I really don't need any more projects, so I am hesitant to make the trade. However, I may if there is a potential gold mine there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Interior bits are always expensive in my experience.

But wow look at this 1957 220S

BIG difference between a coupe and a sedan value. Join our ponton group and get some input after some photos. www.mbzponton.org. Click on mailing lists and then IPOG.

Based on what I've observed on ebay over the last year, I would opine that the Ponton is worth $1500-$2000 and the finny $900-$1100 (rust). That's assuming decent mechanicals. You may get your money back if you restore the Ponton. The finny, not so much. Even good examples hardly bring $3500. A nice Ponton could sell for $6000.

But, hey, if you're in it for the experience, have at it!

Thanks, that is exactly the info I am looking for. I am asking $2,500 for my 280E Euro, so it sounds like I would do alright to get both cars. I am a Diesel guy, and am inclined to keep and fix the 240, but I really don't need any more projects now. Besides, it is unknown if it runs, and the whole car is rougher than the Ponton. I may even just get the Ponton road worthy, and just use it for show as a work in process, and sell the finny.

unless you in to the "experience" of restoring these old gals, keep what you have
However both look like restorable projects, but you will invest a bit of $ and a lot of time, and perhaps , PERHAPS turn a profit.

If you´re asking $2500 for your 1985 Euro 280E, then it must be in very bad shape.

Your 280 is freaking groovy mate. I'd rather have that than a broken funny and an equally broken Ponton.

What all does the 280 need done? What would be on your "to do" list if you were to keep it?

It only needs the front crankshaft seal replaced. Everything else is just cosmetic (minor rust issues).

My friend sold the Ponton yesterday. The buyer said he was going to restore it, and not part it out. I definitely will NOT trade now. I have no interest in the 240.
