w109 front sunroof seal

Hello folks,i`m about to install a new front sunroof seal on my 1971 w109 and i`m kind of confused about wich side gonna be up or down,in the midle of the seal there is an opening, would like to know if the opening must face up or down when installed, thanks in advance,

That opening you see on the seal is to accomodate the center support of the wind deflector and it should be mounted on the bottom with the fold on the top.

I´m sure you already know this: the wind deflector must be removed along with side felts to do the job correctly.

The ONLY seal that will fit correctly is OE. With a little silicone spray, the OE seal will intall easily in about 30 minutes.

hi,thanks for your help, but i don`t see any wind deflector on this car,i look on a 1970 280s and is the same thing, the w123 have the wind deflector,i know for sure because i drive one and i can see the thing pupping out when the roof is sliding back.

As far as I know the 108, 109, 114, 115, 116 use the same wind deflector as the 123. I suppose it´s possible that some idiot removed or broke it before you bought the car.

The sunroof will work without the deflector: it will just be very noisy.

Stroke 8's didnt have a wind deflector. 107 SLC didnt either. Those are the only ones i know for sure that did not have them.
