W115 headlight wiring - which goes where? Photos

Hi guys,

I am in the process of returing the original healight clusters to my 75 300D. My father changed them out years ago for newer ones but I want the original look back to the car. The newer style is on the left. I think it takes away from the classic look.

However, I don't know which wires from the harness go to which posts on the old headlights.

Can somebody help me out by using these photos? I have labeled the wires and the posts to make it easier.

Thanks so much!

Mark

Thanks, I didn't know this thread was moved. I actually discovered the labels imprinted on the casings after I removed the grease.

NB. there are only 4 wires in the photo. There is brown, black with yellow, yellow with green, and yellow with black.

Yellow/bk should be the low beam. If you can find a 56b on the light, it may go there.
Brown is ground, if there's a 31, try there.
Bk/Wht should be the left signal,
that ought to leave Ylw/Green as the marker light.

You may need to open up the light to trace the pins correctly. You can use the meter to check:

Lights off = nothing

Ignition on, left signal on = blinking +12 on Bk/Wht and brown
Marker on = +12 v at Ylw/grn + brn, 0 at Ylw/bk + brn
Lows on = +12v at YLw/grn +brn, +12v at Ylw/bk + brn

I think the "new" lights are actually euros and not DOT (or canadian spec?). The H4 bulb is a superior bulb. Resale will be higher with the euros. I'd put them back in.

This may explain why you didn't have front marker lights. If your dad converted, but didn't adjust from DOT to euro wiring, they may have dropped out. There ought to be a plastic housing on those sleeves, BTW.

Or I'm sure someone would be willing to accept the euros for a W115 for a small fee.

MB Headlight wiring.

I bought a 300CD with European headlights but I like the original round style, and want to put the round org. back.
But it must be rewired.

Would anyone have the pinouts/colors for the old Round lights / fog lights?

1984 300CD or 300D

Thank You Much...

Greg..

PM sent.

The euros are better lights, but if you want the round style with H4 bulbs that is also possible.
