W 108 - Low Power between 0-20 MPH

Hi all,

I recently had time to replace my starter a few weekends ago. I also put in a new battery and changed the oil and oil filter. I've been driving it a few times a week since then. I'm so glad to drive my 108 again after having it sit for 3 months.

Now, the issue is on certain cooler mornings. The engine seems to have a lost of power between 0-20MPH. At 20 MPH, the engine seems to kick in and everything seems to run normal. When warmed, this hestitation seems to go away. I'm thinking it might be a spark plug issue, as maybe the old oil has gummed up. I'm thinking maybe an engine cleaner dumped into the gas tank will help this. If not, I might have to replace the plugs. It could also be that I need to change the fuel filter. I don't think it's a transmission issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You might want to cite the model of W108

It could be a 6-cyl 'S' or 'SE' or an 8-cyl 'SE'.

This info would be helpful in separating the variables of fuel delivery & ignition timing.

I would think those are the most likely possible causes.

It's an 8-cylinder.

Fuel filter is easiest and cheapest to switch out. I'd swap that out first.

Thanks. I think I'll change out the fuel filter first. Then, maybe see Enrique at MR. MB to check my timing.

EFI trigger points caused nearly all of my cold low-power scenarios. IMO much easier to do than a fuel filter too

Bad timing would usually net you more power cold than hot.
