220D Tensioner valve ball bearing launched
Hello, while replacing timing chain on my '72 220D, I undid the large 22mil bolt and removed the timing chain tensioner actuator. Unfortunately, the spring launched the check tiny ball bearing inside of the check valve into oblivion. Short of replacing the entire tensioner actuator, I was wondering if I can just replace the missing ball bearing and if so, does anyone know what size it is ? Also, I cant seem to find a diagram of the assembly order of the valve / actuator. I have a general idea of how it goes back together but don't want to risk the integrity of my timing chain and engine for that matter !
Thanks. |

Wayward Ball Bearing for your Tensioner
(Man that's a Substantially more complex Tensioner !)
See Pictogram below: 'Doan matter if Youse Gots: 115.100 or 115.102 or 115.103 or 115.110 or 115.112 Alla Dems Be Takin Part Number: N 005401 305000 as the Ball Bearing [Call-Out # 72 in the Pictogram.] Which tells us from the Non Standard "N XXXXXX XXXXXX" designation that it's a Non Mercedes Part the Factory has Co-Opted for use in the Tensioner. If you could find the O.D. of the Bearing probably ANYTHING in that exact size would work. ('Cause That'sa alla De Factory did!) Heck, call a Stealership and ask "How Much"? (They can't charge you TOO MUCH for a silly single Ball Bearing.) (Can They ?) I'd be checking to make sure Another Part (or Two)of that Circus in the Pictogram did not Abscond along with the Ball Bearing. ('Doan Dat EPC make us all look like Teutonic Engineering Geniuses?)
