1973 280 carb?

I may be looking for a replacement carb for a 73 280.
Anyone have a known good one lying around? If so, how much?
Thanks!

Don't know, just looking at a car for the son and found a 73 280 here local for a mere $800 and I may be able to talk down. Seller says it may need a new carb, but a rebuild may be all it needs.
I'll go tomorrow and take a look at it. We'll see.

That would be a solex 4A1. Lots of posts here about how poor after ages due to the plates warping.

Buy a rochester and 4-barrel, holly, etc that has an automatic choke and get it jetted right for the displacement. The only hard part is getting the right jets and then getting the linkage right. Both issues are covered if you search here.

I went through this back when, adapting a q jet to my bmw 3 liter six. I had several junkyard carbs on it but finally found an older one with manual choke and manual secondary actuation. Then I bought metering rods for a 67 pontiac sprint and it was pretty excellent.
