Almost cooked it!

Was out surveying the Irene flooding in the 220D this afternoon. As I was going down a hill I remembered I hadn't yet gotten a spare V-belt. For some reason I looked down and saw the temp needle a bit higher than it usually is.....and slowly climbing. Pulled over, shut her down and popped the hood.......antifreeze coming out the weep hole......dammit. As I sat and waited for my friend to come pick me up I admired the fact I was sitting in a car, with no water in the engine right next to a river flirting with the top of the flood gates.

Nothing like an old car haha :-P New water pump is on the way.

Close call! I wasn't so lucky in my '02 Intrepid last summer. Water pump gave out on me while driving on Rt 4 towards Lake George. I was lucky to have my buddy only a couple miles behind me when it happened.

Many a 2.7 has died from this exact thing. Even the 3.5, since if it locks up - there goes the timing belt. Hence why I did mine with 180k on the clock

Good thing you didn't overheat, but you may want to take precautionary measures like change your coolant & oil now in case boiling in the block loosened scale, or you did burn the oil a bit.

Its got fresh coolant now and the oil change is due in like a week so that will be done as well. Put the pump on and everything is as it was before the pump failed. Good thing it wasn't one of those scorcher days we had in July.....
