Carb Info Needed
I need to know what brand/type carurators are on my 1972 250C m130 inline 6, chassis #114023. Non of the mechanics around here know or can find out. Both carbs need work--kits were recommended but need to know carb brand before ordering kits.
Problem: dies on acceleration. Thank you. |

Help found here
Hi
I can recommend that you contact Micropolishing in this case. Jeff Palay at Micropolishing is a fantastic guy, and he provide a great carburator service. www.paltech1.com or micropolishing@paltech1.com I bought a pair of Zenith carbs for my -71 230/8 and they looks like brand new ones.

Carburetors are most likely Zeniths. Models varied somewhat, I think the rebuild kits out there cover a few models and should be what you're looking for. Check the archives here for more than you'd ever want to read about them.

Original carbs were Zeniths, and as suggested, do a search. Here's what you'll find: Carbs are very sensitive to adjustment. Some can get it right, but others struggle. Zenith carb bodies warp, causing leaks both air and fuel. You can get a conversion kit to use Webers, but it requires some fiddling to set it up right. The Webers, while expensive, made all the difference in the world for my 250C. I would not go back to the Zeniths for my car. Jim

It is likely the carbs were Zenith 35?40 INAT or JNAT. Jam Engineering mods Webers to replace them, but the Webers are expensive. BMW dealers used to have rebuild kits for the Zeniths. Sometimes you can find them on Ebay. Good luck!

Accelerator pumps are bad. Here's the rub: they don't come with the kits- they are a separate item. However, you'll need the kits because you'll need to tear into them to replace the accelerator pumps. I'd really try to find a mechanic who knows what he/ she is doing on these carbs before you dive in. And yes, they should be Zeniths. They're great carbs if you or your mechanic has the knowledge and patience to go through them, check everything, and correct all issues. The JAM engineering kit is a very nice second- best, and desireable because you can use your stock air cleaner.

If you do start the rebuild process, check each surface for 'flatness'. You make need to use thicker gaskets to compensate for any warp.
You could also go for throttle body fuel injection using Megasquirt. Someone modified a W110 4 cyl to use this setup.

The royce carb kits for the Zenith 35-40 INAT are inferior quality. The gaskets are of a thinner material compared to the original so may start issues of air or fuel leaks.
Hopefully someone can recommend another kit source as well . ad |
