Did my '72 220 have vacuum door locks?

Good afternoon,

I saw some posts about people having issues with vacuum door locks on their W114's and W115's. That got me wondering: did my 1972 220 come with vacuum door locks? If so, it's not working. I just assumed that power locks weren't an option for the car and I've been unlocking and locking manually since I acquired the car earlier in the year.

Does anyone know if this was an option on a '72? If so, how would I be able to tell if my car came with them?

Cheers,
Doug

It was an option. The easiest way to find out is to call the dealer parts department and give them your VIN.

Or you could look for vacuum lines leading into the doors.

EZ find

The easiest way to find out: is to open the gas filler door.
On the inside is a round plastic 'thing' attached to the inside of the door, with a vacuum line attached to it.
If it's not there (or no sign that it ever was), then you never had central locking on the car.
(it was a very rare option on the first version 114/5 cars , the ones with front door 1/4 windows).
It might have become a standard item for series two cars US models ......

Give us a shout back how it turned out....
Thanks

Alex

Early W114/W115 cars did not have the lock option.

I'm a bit fuzzy since it's been a while, but I think my 73 220D had them.
I've never seen a set on a 72 or earlier.
