The down side to recycling..

Here is a really sad thread from a young lady who had her W126 380SE's (two of them ) stolen by metal recyclers who crushed one of them and destroyed the other.

Here in the US you must possess title (legal ownership) to crush a car, or even give it to a scrap metal hauler .

I am sure. But most junk yards around me also crush and recycle scrap. Thus they have a fleet of tow trucks. Would be easy for them to crush a car without anyone knowing.

I hope the place that crushed the cars gets put out of business if the events took place as described by the owner. it sounds like they had a phone conversation and they admitted ot having the cars and hadn't touched them yet, then they destroyed them both before the owner could bring proof of ownership.

I am wondering if the person they spoke too was innocent of the fact and said they had them. Then the bosses found out and said "crap!" and tried to crush them as fast as they could. Which would still be very, very stupid.

In TN, they will cush anything. in the day, in one county in particular, you could order your parts and someone would go find them. (probably on the roadside.
