Awsome 111

Poached this from another forum-thought it was worth putting here:

They must have done a RHD to LHD conversion because the vin states that it is a RHD export car which makes sense if it went/came from South Africa.

I don't care so much about the center console, but that's personal taste. I wish my paint and interior looked like this...

This car is gorgeous, thanks for the post. Bert, you mentioned deciphering the VIN, is there a way to do that? I have a car that was originally bought in Germany and I believe it was bought for straight export, but not sure. Is there an easy way to get a cars history from its VIN? To me the history of a car is so interesting.

This car was on top gears website a while back, extremely cool. IIRC the price was nearly a half a million dollars.

Gorgeous stuff but for my half mil I don't want the motor hidden under a plastic cover.

I agree about the console-it's a bit bulky. the radio is kind of funky looking to. I think they could have keep the original slim face Becker as a dash filler and put a hi end unit in the trunk with a remote. The early instrument cluster looks cool. love the color-makes me want to repaint mine. I like the look without the clunky side markers-I am shaving mine as work progresses.

Correction: I completely spaced out. This car is NOT a RHD, but a LHD from factory. It should have been 22 if it was RHD with automatic, but it is 12, which means LHD with automatic. I was wondering when I drove home im my coupe how the &^*% they did that conversion anyway.

Arthur, thanks for pointing it out. My bad.

I just love that color combination. Nice job with the camera, too!

I like it a lot ! :P

Although for that price/quality, I'd expect that the sunroof swicth would be mounted correct (as far as I can see, they mounted it upside down). I know I am being picky, but that poor future owner is going to hear that from jealous guys/gals like us. I also wonder whether the carpet is real MB. Looks different than what should be with Cognac leather.

There was a beatiful green with cognac interior manual shifter for sale a month or so ago on the West-Coast. I'll post a picture tonight or tomorrow. Absolutely gorgeous in my opinion, even better than this one. It turned out to be Vin 111026-10-000740 and my car is Vin 111026-10-000741 (!).

Number 742 (vin 111026-22-000742) is still alive as well. It is in Australia and apparently was owned by a Men at Work band member at one point.

I have been collecting pictures with Vin numbers of 3.5 coupes for a couple of years whenever I see one for sale just to see what is still out there.
