1976 240D still not running...

I made a topic a couple of months ago when I busted my oil pan. Since then we have done many repairs and it still wont start. To refresh your memory, the oil pan busted on the highway and I shut the car off right away. I replaced the oil pan and checked out the oil pump/pickup, after the pan was on It would not start up. I was also have problems with the starter before this happened so I replaced that too. All 4 injector lines are getting fuel. I'm running out of things to try and Im tired of it sitting, ill try anything give me ideas please.
Things I replaced:
Oil pan/gasket
Starter
Fuel primer(new bosch style)
Both fuel filters replaced
Adjusted the valves(thought they may have tightened up from low oil pressure)
The Battery checks out
Glow plugs are getting hot(its over 100 degrees here anyways)
Video of car cranking

So I take it the engine turns over?

Is there fuel going through the injector lines?

I know nothing about how to time the engine, but if you have fuel, and heat, the only thing missing is timing in a diesel. Post on the main diesel forum.

One thing you could do is try a tad of ether (Quick Start) in the intake manifold, to see if it is a combustion problem. If that doesn't work, then it would seem to be a timing issue.

I tried ether once and it still wouldn't budge, I don't see how the timing could have got messed up from this but I can look into it

Only thing I can recommend is that you check the valve adjustment clearances.

It may have been a coincidence and unrelated to your 'accident'.

I had a '79 240D that would not start all of a sudden.

Valves got adjusted and ran fine afterward....

replace your inline glow plug fuse with the correct strip fuse. it may be borderline bad.

(why are your rear wheels bent outward?? under load?)

Its not spinning fast enough for one thing. Never use ether on a diesel! Use WD40 sprayed into the intake with the air filter lid removed and someone cranking it over. A diesel requires fuel and air and heated cylinders and a fast spinning engine to fire. Use another diesel car and quality jumper cables hooked to your battery, hopefully that will cause the engine to spin faster.

Have you tried pull starting it? Mercedes automatic transmissions can be pulled started at about 25 miles per hour.

I have had diesels that would not start after cranking them forever or too slow, they can drown too (too much fuel, too little air)
Pull start it or before cranking: disconnect the InjPump lever from the throttle lever when cranking and open the throttle, giving it a lot more air than diesel......

Just a thought, if nothing else worked.

Report back with results for us, could you, we'd like to know how it went...

Alex
(I got a couple of those 240Ds)
