possible to repair (rather than replace) dash switches on a w115

My Blower fan switch doesn't work in every position and I am wondering if switches like these can be taken apart and cleaned (being that they are $200+ for a new one).

I am also wondering if I could do the same with the electrical part of the ignition switch?

my car is a 75' 300d w115

Are you sure a blown fuse is not the problem?

There is a fuse for that fan and I think it's on the passenger side in a special box.

The blower speed is controlled by resistors, presumably in the engine compartment--perhaps one or more has failed

The blower motor and resistors all check out OK with the volt / ohm meter. The fan speed switch is the definite problem - it only works if you jiggle it - It used to work with more fan speeds but now 1 fan speed works.

Can this switch be taken apart, cleaned / repaired? Has anyone tried?

The fan switch is riveted onto the back of the heater cable control unit, so it takes some disassembly just to access it. The switch itself is also riveted together, but the contacts are not enclosed. It is certainly plausible that the contacts are crudded up. If you can get the heater control assembly out of the dash, then it will be easy to clean the contacts with some spray cleaner without taking the switch apart.
