1970 250C 2.8L performance? (cross post from Performance Paddock)
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/performance-paddock/307296-1970-250c-2-8l-performance.html
There is the link to the other thread. It was recommended that I cross post it over into Vintage. Does anyone over here have any suggestions? I am not completely opposed to a turbo, but I have no idea how much this block is capable of handling. |

Yes first you need to know if Block, head, pistons and rods will hold up.

Is it true that there is a different intake manifold that would change from the dual zenith setup to a single 2 or 4 barrel carb? If so, I would be very interested in that. |

As far as cams, you would have to engineer something.I've advance timing and run premium fuel the best trick for carb engines.

Fuel injection is out but turbo charging is in?
The W114 uses the same sub frame as 107, put a 450, 500 or 560SL engine in it and it will go like the clappers.

Now, this is something I can wrap my head around. I am a V8 guy at heart, but I have no other Mercedes knowledge (very limited) outside of this car and engine.
I will have to do some research on those engines and see if I can find one. |

I can't offer much advice, since I have yet to tear into one of these engines, but I was thinking about something recently: The engine from a Datsun 240Z is very similar to the M130 (the heads and valvetrain, specifically, look virtually the same), so it might be worth asking someone who's squeezed some more power out of a Z (or a 510, which has a 4-cylinder version of the same engine) what kind of mods he'd recommend for the Benz.

As a person who autocrossed a benz for a few years I can say with some authority that there is little if anything available aftermarket to increase performance. If you want to go faster it would be easiest as suggested above, probably to go to a higher performing benz engine as a unit rather than trying to hop up a stocker.
Depending on the year, some of the early smog engines can be returned to presmog configurations and obtain a lot more performance in that way, illegal though it might be in some jurisdictions. I have a lovely euro 110 engine complete with exhaust that might swap into your body without too much trouble which I will sell quite reasonably. It currently resides in the car complete and running so any ancillaries needed are there as well.
